FELONY ARREST IN THE VILLAGE OF AVON
On August 23rd, 2026 at approximately 10:45 pm, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area of South River Road in the Town of Caledonia for the reported traffic complaint involving a possibly intoxicated operator. Deputy Hayden Strobel of the Sheriff’s Office STOP DWI Unit ultimately located the vehicle on River Street in the Village of Avon and conducted a traffic stop after observing violations of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.
Contact was made with the operator, who was identified as 25-year-old Lawrence Zimmermann of Rochester NY. The Deputy suspected that he was possibly under the influence of alcohol and began a DWI investigation which included the performance of standardized field sobriety tests. At the completion of the roadside investigation, Zimmermann was taken into custody for DWI.
During the course of the investigation, Zimmermann was also found to be in possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, methamphetamine and MDMA.
Zimmermann was transported to Sheriff’s Headquarters in Geneseo where he was administered a breathalyzer to determine his blood alcohol content (BAC). The breathalyzer revealed that Zimmermann had a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .09%.
Zimmermann was charged with felony Criminal Possession of a Firearm, felony Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, felony Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, misdemeanor Driving While Intoxicated, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree and violations of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.Zimmerman was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention. He was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) at the Livingston County Jail before Town of Groveland Justice Bean. The District Attorney’s Office recommended that Zimmermann be held on $5,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. The Judge did remand Zimmermann to the custody of the Sheriff on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office was present and represented Zimmermann at the court arraignment for his defense. The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office was notified and did appear to represent the People.
Assisting with the investigation were members of the Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division and the Avon Police Department.
