MT. MORRIS – Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Mt. Morris resident on felony Criminal Mischief charges following an investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.

On March 29th, 2026 at approximately 6:45 pm, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence on River Road in the Town of Mt. Morris for the reported domestic incident.  Upon arrival, Deputies met with a female individual who advised that she had gotten into a domestic incident with a male who had left the scene prior to the Deputies arriving.  The male was identified as 40-year-old Matthew Bird of Mt. Morris.

It is alleged through the investigation that Bird had intentionally caused damage to a vehicle owned by the female victim during the domestic incident, causing substantial damage.

On April 7th, 2026, Deputy Danielle Fensken arrested Bird and charged him with felony Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Bird was transported and turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for arrest processing and pre-arraignment detention.  He was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) at the Livingston County Jail before Town of Springwater Justice Johnson.  The Judge did release Bird on his own recognizance as the charges do not qualify for bail under the NYS Bail Reform Act.

The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office was present and represented Bird at the court arraignment for his defense.  The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office was also present to represent the People.

Assisting with the investigation was the New York State Police.
