GENESEO - Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Monroe County resident on felony charges following an investigation inside the Livingston County Jail.

On June 5th, 2026 at approximately 6:00 am, Deputies assigned to the Jail Division observed 25-year-old Christopher Montanez, who is currently an incarcerated individual, punch and break the window of his cell door.

Montanez was ultimately arrested by Jail Division Sergeant Matthew Romanowski and charged with felony Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree.

Montanez was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) at the Livingston County Jail before Town of Nunda Justice Morris.  The Judge did release Montanez on his own recognizance as the offense does not qualify for bail under the NYS Bail Reform Act.  Montanez remained in the custody of the Sheriff on un-related charges.

The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office was present and represented Montanez at the court arraignment for his defense.  The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office was also present to represent the People.

Assisting with the investigation were members of the Sheriff’s Office Correctional Services Bureau and the Criminal Investigations Division.
