FELONY ARREST IN THE TOWN OF AVON

AVON - Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Dansville resident on felony charges following a traffic stop on Interstate 390 in the Town of Avon.

On August 30th, 2026 at approximately 9:03 pm, Deputy Matthew VanCuran was assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Highway Patrol Unit when he conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 390 after observing a violation of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.  The Deputy made contact with the operator, who was identified as 37-year-old Ramon Torres of Dansville NY.

The Deputy suspected that there was drug activity in the vehicle and conducted a roadside drug investigation.  As a result of the investigation, Torres was found to be in possession of crack cocaine.

Torres was arrested and charged with felony Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree and violations of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.Torres was transported and turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention.  He was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) at the Livingston County Jail before Village of Geneseo Justice Bushnell.  The Judge did release Torres on his own recognizance, as the offenses do not qualify for bail under the NYS Bail Reform Act.The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office was present and represented Torres at the court arraignment for his defense. The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office was notified and did also appear to represent the People.
