FELONY ARREST IN THE TOWN OF SPARTA

On April 17th, 2026 at approximately 5:26 am, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Parker Hill Road in the Town of Sparta for the report of a Criminal Mischief to a vehicle. Deputy Justin Hilt arrived on scene and began an investigation into the damaged property.
It is alleged through the investigation that 45-year-old Matthew Englert of Springwater intentionally damaged vehicle property at the residence.
On May 28th, 2026, Englert was arrested by Deputy Hilt and charged with felony Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree.
Englert was transported and turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for arrest processing and pre-arraignment detention. Englert was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) at the Livingston County Jail before Town of Groveland Justice Bean. The Judge did release Englert on his own recognizance as the offense does not qualify for bail under the NYS Bail Reform Act.
The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office was present and represented Englert at the court arraignment for his defense. The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office was also present to represent the People.
Assisting with the investigation for the Sheriff’s Office was the Criminal Investigations Division.
