FELONY ARREST IN THE VILLAGE OF GENESEO

GENESEO - Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Livingston County Inmate on felony and misdemeanor charges following an investigation.

On September 22^nd, 2026, 45-year-old, Daniel VanSkiver Jr. of Dansville, NY, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Family Offense, a class E felony and Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree, a class A misdemeanor after an investigation was conducted by members of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.

On September 21^st, 2026, at about 9:40 pm, Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the Correctional Services Bureau received a tip that VanSkiver had been contacting the protected party of a duly served Order of Protection via telephone.

Through the course of the investigation, it was found that VanSkiver had contacted the protected party numerous times over a five-day period. A review of VanSkiver’s criminal history showed that he had a previous conviction of Criminal Contempt within the preceding five years, making this arrest a felony. 

VanSkiver was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) before Town of York Justice Porter. The Judge did remand VanSkiver to the Custody of the Sheriff on $5,000.00 cash/credit or $10,000.00 secured bond.

The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office was present and represented VanSkiver at the arraignment for his defense.  The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office was also present at the arraignment to represent the People.
